4. Ghosts of 6/12 still haunt : Kolkatans
Today is the 26th anniversary of the incident, the ghost of which still haunt. Now, we are not here to assess who is right or who is wrong. Let's not get judgemental, but it's important to gauge how much impact the demolition has has on Kolkatans.
Now opinions differ. And we get a variety of views from people. Shiv Jhatia, a businessman from burabazar claims that "Ram is not just an icon. He is the ultimate in the universe. The land where the mosque was built, actually belongs to the temple. it was an illegal move altogether to demolish the temple for the mosque. I demand rebuilding the temple ," says Jhatia.
Now that's his opinion but isn't the incident the triggering point of communal tensions in the country ? It is not a question of who is responsible, but Babu Mills of Rajabazar has a solution. Since the dispute has led to religious disharmony built a church. " Since my childhood I have heard stories of differences over Hindu and Muslim worship points. I think that the land should be used for a church to avoid any further escalation of perturbation, " says Molla. Asfaq Qureshi, more popular as Asfaqchacha of MG Road feels that according to legend, the temple was demolished for a mosque. Subrata Bagchi, a resident of kela bagan claims that
Mosque should be rebuilt as it involves the sentiments of the Muslims. " Hindus are hurt and lets ensure Muslims aren't too. So I feel the masjid should be built,
Bagchi says whether one builts a temple or mosque that will be decided in due course of time. But blame it on fundamentalist for causing a division along religious lines irrespective of the community they are part of. India is a secular country and no way can we break the secular fabric. Sensitivity should not be tampered with.
