1.Semi-nude, black flag protests greet Sushmita in Silchar

SILCHAR: Half-naked men of Madhurband, Silchar in Cachar district
and hundreds of others greeted Congress MP and All India Women Congress President Sushmita Dev with black flags while staging a protest against her on Sunday. The protesters lambasted the Congress MP for supporting the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. (CAB) 2016. Slogans against the Bill and Dev rocked the region on Sunday. The agitators further burnt Dev’s effigy. Ignoring this protest demonstration, Dev expressed her concerns about this bill. "Nobody is looking at the other side of the story. Even if this bill is passed, the claimants will have to run from pillar to post for attaining Indian
citizenship,” said Dev.“They will have to produce all the documents from Bangladesh. Certainly this is not going to be a cake walk for them." Dev observed.
She further stated that Cachar Congress is following the approach shown by former Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader. Tarun Gogoi.
"Tarun Gogoi maintained that the voter’s list should be prepared on the basis of 2014 voter’s list. Cachar Congress too is maintaining this position. We have not deviated  from this position,” Dev quipped. She also claimed , "I have reiterated this view before the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC)." The Silchar Ml* alleged that her views didn’t receive
the desired response from the Union government and that the government is simply giving false assurances. They are fooling the people,Dev alleged. Meanwhile, employees of the Assam government have come in support of protests against the Citizenship (Amendments) Bill 2016.The employees, under the banner of Sadou Asom Karmachari Parishad (SAKP). on Sunday decided to hold a three-hour sit in demonstration on January 30 across the state.
SAKP General Secretary Fakhruddin Ahmed said a resolution to this effect was adopted at a meeting held at Tamulpur on Sunday. The SAKP has around four lakh members who
are the employees of the Assam government. The sit in demonstration by the four lakh employees on January 30 implies that the administration will come to a standstill for three hours that day. "The SAKP had taken active part during the Assam Movement
against the illegal foreigners. Out of the total 860 martyrs of the movement. 68 were government employees and members of the SAKP." Ahmed said.
