GUWAHATI: Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday presented laptops under Anundoram Barooah Award scheme to students who obtained at least 75% marks in their class X board examinations in 2018. The programme was held at the Sarusajai Stadium. Students who have scored 75% marks or more in their High School Leaving Certificate, High Madrassa, Senior Madrassa, Sanskrit Pravesika and Pali examinations last year were felicitated at the programme. Under the Anundoram Barooah Award scheme, laptops would be handed over to 20,720 students of the state this year. The award also provides a free twoyear internet connection with WiFi dongles, free subscriptions of academic content for classes XI and XII as well as access to online learning and coaching for score improvement system in the science stream. Sonowal said the laptops are being given to meritorious students so that they can take advantage of new-age learning methods with the help of the internet. "Try to acquire as much knowledge as possible so that you can achieve success at any corner of the world and contribute to make Assam the best state in the country," Sonowal told the students while also urging them to be careful about the perils of cybercrimes.
Asserting that the 'Advantage Assam: Global Investment Summit' held last year had dispelled the notion that investors do not want to come to the state, Sonowal said that MoUs worth Rs 79,000 crore were signed during the summit, out of which Rs 12,000 crore has already been invested in the state. "For empowering the youth of the state, skill-training centres have been opened at every block and a Skill City is being built at Mangaldoi, which would train 10,000 youths in various trades every year," he said. Education minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya appealed to the students to carry on with the same zeal so that they can excel in future examinations with flying colours.
