Keeping diseases at bay
POSHAN Abhiyan and Swachhta go hand in hand in Hailakandi.
Hailakandi, Sept.14: As part of the ongoing POSHAN Maah, the Hailakandi district administration has stepped up efforts to create awareness on health and nutrition among pregnant women and adolescent children to make them healthy.
To boost the immune system and to keep diseases at bay, including anemia, the district administration has embarked on a unique initiative to produce small ladoo made up of amla (gooseberry) and gur (jaggery) laced with salt.
Spearheading the campaign is Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli. Jalli has been on the forefront making ladoos from amla-gur and distributing them to pregnant women and children in the Anganwadi centres and ICDS projects as part of the ongoing POSHAN Abhiyan in the district.
The district administration has converged two ongoing programmes POSHAN Maah and Swacch Survekshan Gramin as both programs aimed at making one healthy. At one such event held at the SK Roy Civil Hospital on Saturday, Jalli harped on maintaining cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation and to consume nutritious food to maintain a healthy body and mind. Jalli along with health functionaries explained the beneficial effects of amla-gur in fighting many a disease and in boosting the body's immune system. They explained that amla possesses huge amount of Vitamin C and antioxidants and gur rich in vital vitamins and minerals to keep diseases at bay.
The Deputy Commissioner urged everyone to download the app and vote during the Swacch Survekshan Gramin. Jalli even distributed ladoos to those who downloaded the app as a gift.
Superintendent of SK Roy Civil Hospital and officials of Health and Social Welfare departments were present on the occasion.
