burnt herself to death on Wednesday, her family sources claimed. Sources said Sabitri Roy (40). a resident of StationRoad locality of Hailakandi poured kerosene on her body and torched herself by locking inside bathroom at her house about 1 pm Wednesday. Family sources said she was soon rushed to Hailakandi S K Roy civil hospital in a critical condition, from where doctors
referred her to Silehar Medical College Hospital. Sabitri. with 90% burn injury succumbed at SMCH in the afternoon, hospital sources said. The victim's
mother-in-law Mira Roy said. Sabitri s name did not appear in the draft NRC although she submitted voter list of 1966 of her father who lives in Tripura. "She
was very tense about ending up in a detention centre as she believed those out of NRC would be sent to a detention centre, alter her name didn’t appear in the final list of the NRC published on August 31. We understand that she was suffering from extreme mental torture and this led her commit suicide", said Mira Roy. Mira however informed that other members of the family including herself. Sabitri’s husband Debobrato Roy and 13 years-old daughters names made it to the final NRC.The fear of being marked as a foreigner and its consequences
