Reportedly, following the recovery, the number of rhinos killed this year rose to six. According to sources, the tourist group while on elephant safari spotted the carcass of the pachyderm near few bushes on the tourist route to Bagori range at the
Bhulukajan forest camp area of the park.
“The area where the carcass was spotted is hardly 500 meters from the Beat
Office of the range. It is probably for the first time that poaching took place so close to the path meant for tourists,” said Bipin Saikia.

passed off as sounds of firecrackers from a marriage nearby.” told Bohoni Ballav
Saikia, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of KNP to Eastern Chronicle on Saturday.
“Investigation is being carried out and we are trying to ascertain the modus operandi of the poachers as confirmed gunshots were not heard.” added Saikia.
