Students Are On Dharna In Front Of Last Gate, Dispur for Fee Waiver
GUWAHATI : Students from all over the state sat in the dharna at the gate at the last gate demanding fee waiver. The dharna was organized at the call of the fee-demanding struggle committee. Students from both Barak and Brahmaputra Valley participated in the ritual. They demand that the free admission order be resumed. Karimganj MLA Kamilaksha De Purakayastha joined the movement of the student struggle committee demanding a fee waiver. He also spoke on religion. The struggle committee condemned Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya. They complain that this is a planned conspiracy to prevent poor students from studying.
It may be mentioned here that the fee waiver student struggle committee has been protesting for a long time. The committee said that the poor students are being deprived of free education opportunities, especially in college due to 'back' examination and attendance problems. The decision was taken considering the financial plight of the poor students. The committee also said that in this situation, the dream of educating many poor students will remain unfulfilled. In another sense, the road to becoming educated is closing down on them. The committee asks if there is an opportunity to clear the 'back' among brilliant students in engineering or medical colleges, So why not have that opportunity in the ordinary college for poor students? The committee alleges that the government has now made a commitment to provide free education in this state.
