Cachar admin issues directives to puja committees.
Silchar: A meeting was held on Friday at cachar Deputy Commissioner's conference hall with ensuring Durga puja festival. All the puja committees and line departments were present at the meeting. The meeting was presided over by DC Laya Madduri, ADC Jessica Rose Lalsim spoke at length regarding the purpose of the meeting and hoped that the ensuing Puja festival wil be celebrated peacefully and harmoniously. During the discussion, it was stated that a letter had already been issued to E.E. pollution control board silchar from District administration of cachar for inspection and to take necessary steps as per law for strict compliance of the Pollution control guidelines. ADC Lalsim Lao also talked about zero use of plastic. She mentioned construction of pandals & gated should be made without creating roadblocks. In case it has or have been constructed the concerned puja committees should remove the same immediately. Puja committee should contact PWD roads, NH building, SMB for obtaining necessary permission for NOC and fitness certificate. For taking temporary electric connection, permission should be taken from APDCL, NOC from the fire brigade to follow rules and regulations for using loud speaker system by the puja committees. While mentioning about sound pollution, it was stated that as per pollution control guidelines & as per Supreme court's order, the use of Loud speaker is prohibited from 10pm to 8 am and noise level of my sound system should not extend maximum of 65 decibels.
She also mentioned that CCTV cameras should be installed at all the puja pandals & volunteers should be engaged at the gates of the puja pandals for smooth passage of people so that no untoward incident takes place.
Additional superintendent of police Jagadish Das said that the contact numbers of all the puja committees members & volunteers should be fumished will in advance. He also urged that puja committees to organise procession peaceful without creating disturbance to others.
Laya Madduri mentioned that the puja committees should avoid use of plastic & instead of using plastic they should use cotton, eco friendly biodegradable materials, they can use banana leaves for taking food items served during puja. She also talked about solid & liquid waste management, she said there should be two separate disposal for solid & liquid Estes in every puja Pandals. She urged to people to follow "refuse, reduce, reuse, & recycle".
In addition to that in award categories 'zero waste generating pandals' & 'no single use plastic' categories have been introduced for the first time in silchar & puja committees will be rewarded based on eco friendly methods adopted by them.
