International airport at silchar- a dream that soon might turn true..
Sanjeev Jandal- executive director in Airport Authority of India visited silchar yesterday. He inspected the kumbhirgram Airport & discussed various developmental issues & also informed the gathered press that a team of AAI will visit silchar at the month of August.
He said that for international airport to set up a runway of 3km & an airstrip spread across 4km is the mandatory & minimal requirement which is not there in kumbhirgram.
According to our correspondent we get to know that they have short listed some areas which will be perfect for the new international airport. Among these Khoril Tea Garden located under Dolu post office & Borkhola police station is the most perfect land for AAI to execute this new plan. There are some other prefered lands too. They also added that an expert team will be visiting silchar in the last part of this month to the finalized the land.
Even after the installation of new airport, the existing airport will continue to function for cargo & Indian Air Force.
