Intoxicating tablets worth Rs. 20 lakh seized.
Silchar: Police seized a huge cache of WY tablets valued at 2lakh & arrested a man in this connection at jirighat, cachar on Saturday.
The arrested man lamgousang Singson(33) is a resident of Phaitol in Tamenglong district of Manipur. According to sources, lakhipur sub divisional police officer Anurag Sharma & jirighat police carried out an operation around 1:30 pm on Saturday afternoon on the basis of specific information at jirighat around 45 km from here, and nabbed Singson with around 45,000 WY tablets, sources said.
Sharma & Jirighat police station's officer in charge Manoj Rajbongshi were in civil dress during the operation. They met Singson on NH-37 while few other police officials were near the spot. Another person who was with Singson at that time managed to flee away.
Anurag Sharma said they had been receiving information about the smuggling of intoxicated tablets for the past many days & police were active to get hold of those involved since the past one week. " A big racket is running the clandestine business. Two routes are being used to snuggle the tablets from Myanmar to Bangladesh. First, the tablets are bought from Myanmar to Barak valley through Manipur, & then these are smuggled to Bangladesh via Tripura", he said.
Huge cache of intoxicating tablets have been seized & many arrested in different operations in Barak Valley in the past few months. Yana tablets worth Rs. 8 crore were seized & two arrested from a lodge in silchar in may this year. In June , yaba tablets worth Rs. 10 lakh were seized & two arrested from silchar- Agartala passenger train at Dharmanagar railway station.
WY tablets, commonly known as Yaba tablets are tablets containing a mixture of methamphetamine & caffeine. It is knoyin different names in different countries.
