Two including child die in landslide in Karimganj.
Two persons including a child were buried alive when large chunk of soil came down on them, on 30th August, Friday afternoon at Farimukh village near Khagail in South karimganj. The victims have been identified as Rassel Ahmed (6 years) & Kabir Ahmed alias Abdullah (25 years). Abdullah is the driver of the excavator engaged in culting of soil.
According to our correspondent, atleast 5 workers were engaged in cutting soil at the foothill with the help of excavator & loading the tippers for past two days. At 2 pm on Friday suddenly large chunk of soil came down on the workers & those present on the spot including the excavator engaged in the job. Locals rushed to the spot after hearing about the incident, launched rescue operation, & managed to rescue 3 workers who were critically injured. However, Rassel & Abdullah died under the debris. SDRF & fire brigade personal continue to search for more bodies, the source added.
While the 3 injured workers have been admitted to Kaliganj Govt hospital for treatment,but the two deceased have been sent to karimganj civil hospital for autopsy.
Source said , 6 years old Rassel went to the spot carrying drinking water for the driver Abdullah, when the tragedy occurred. Rassel's ill fated father Sahabuddin alleged that the contractor was cutting soil from the hill unscientifically which led to the landslide. He demanded punishment for those involved into it. A police team led by karimganj additional SP Debojit Nath rushed to the spot and launched an investigation into the matter besides taking care of the rescue operation.
