Urban Development Minister Piyush Hazarika to lay the foundation stone of the Silchar Gandhibag amusement park at three o'clock this afternoon. Aminul Haque Lashkar, Vice-President of the Legislative Assembly, Dr. Rajdeep Roy, MP of Silchar, along with several leaders,





Silchar: Minister of State for Urban Development Department (independent) and Health and Family Welfare  Pijush Hazarika will make a two-day visit to Barak Valley on Thursday. He will lay the foundation stone of the proposed
amusement park at (Gandhi Bagh). Aminul Haque Lashkar, Vice-President of the Legislative Assembly, Dr. Rajdeep Roy, MP of Silchar, along with several leaders, MLAs. However, the invitation did not include the name of Silchar MLA Dilip Paul, who has not yet been clarified on joining the event.

The Silchar Municipal Board in collaboration with the Assam Progressive Developers Limited (APDL) is going to build the first-ever amusement park in Silchar.



It will have the facilities of boating deck, water rides, multipurpose hall and many other attractive rides. SMB sources said that the APDI will construct the entire amusement park within 36 months. But this decision has not gone well with all. A section of influential and prominent citizens of the town are not happy with the decision. Sammilito Sanskritik Mancha too has raised objections over it. They said that they will not bear moves that the damage of greenery of the town. SMB also assured that it will provide employment to more than 200 unemployed youths of silchar.

 SMB also claimed that not a single tree will be cut down for building the amusement park. A decision was taken by the leading citizens of the town to
stage protest at Gandhi Bagh on September 5 in front of minister Hazarika. They will also file public interest litigation in National Green Tribunal (NGT). In this regard, a protest meeting was also held on Tuesday night. They submitted a memorandum to Cachar Deputy Commissioner demanding the cancellation of the construction of amusement park. They are of the opinion that the amusement park will damage the sole green area of Silchar. Shuvan Duttagupia who is an
environmental scientist and also a teacher of Assam University,  said that it is necessary to gain permission of NGT before cleaning a forest.

 Ranjan Roy, Congress ward commissioner of the Board, said Ik* had sent a memorandum to Pijush Hazarika and opposed the construction of  the amusement park. He also alleged that the decision of construction of park was not passed in the board meeting.

Silchar MlA Dilip Paul who met Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also opposed it. He  alleged that his name was not on the invitation card. However. Madhumita Sarma. BJP ward commissioner, begged to differ here. She informed that all elected representatives of Cachar have been invited and also said that Dilip Paul has also been invited. She further informed that the park will be constructed at her ward us. municipal ward number 24.
