Medical Services called off in Barak valley ; Protest Against killing of Dr. Deben Dutta
03, September Silchar : In protest against the brutal killing of Dr. Deben Dutta at teok Tea Estate on August 31, the Assam Branch of Indian Medical Association called for a 24-hours closure of non-essential medical services from 6 am on Tuesday excluding Emergency.
At a Joint Press Release issued by the Junior Doctor's Association (JDA) of Silchar Medical College and Hospital along with the students Union (SMCSU) and the Post Graduate Trainee Association (PGTA), it was stated that they condemn the horrific Incident by supporting of the 24-hour closure of non-essential medical services. The sit-in protest began from 10am to 12 pm in front of the OPD.
They demanded for strict and stringent action against the culprits and also an increase in the security measures at every government health institutes of Assam.
Doctors in other government hospitals across Barak valley including silchar civil hospital also joined the agitation. Later, they also took out a massive candle rally at the evening. Dr Rajdeep Roy MP of Silchar also joined the Silent Candle March with his faternity doctors (Indian Medical Association Cachar Branch)
