ABVP urges Assam University to abide by Lyngdon Commission.
Silchar: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Assam University unit, has strongly condemned and opposed the proposal made to change the existing AUSU constritution dishonouring the LYNGDON Commission & the judgement of the supreme court. In this regard, they submitted a memorandum to the vice-chancellor of AUS here in Monday. They out forth the case between university of Kerala Vs council principals, colleges & ORS.
In this case , the court told that the age of the research scholar can be enhanced up to 30 years for contesting the election (only for jawaharlal Nehru University). JNU being a post graduate university has certain district features of its own. It's rules & Constitution cannot be applied to Assam University where majority of students hails from UG & professional courses. As per the LYNGDON Commission a candidate shall have one opportunity to contest for office bearer & two for the executive council.
They stated that the laws & regulation must be followed & decision must not be based on the stake of a person or a group whereas being the stakeholder of the university the primary concern must always be the concern of the general students.
The memorandum was signed by Sagar Bastola, secretary, ABVP, AUS unit.
