NRC : Citizens smell ' Conspiracy' against Bengalis.
A large number of citizens of Karimganj town , on Saturday, expressed deep concern over the alleged "harassment" to religious & linguistics minorities in connection with the National Register of Citizens (NRC) update process, exclusion of names of people, especially Bengalis , from the register despite if notices randomly to people from foreigners tribunal.
The NRC , being updated in Assam for the first time after 1951 under the supervision of the supreme court, is aimed at identifying Bona fide Indian citizen & detecting illegal immigrants living in the state. The final draft NRC featured the names of around 2.89 crore citizens, out of 3.29 crore citizens, over 40.70 crore citizens names were left out. The final NRC will be published on August 31.
The programme, held at Shambhu Safar Park in Karimganj was presided over by Mohitosh Das , the president of Bhasa Sahid Udjapan Committee, speaker including Tushar Das, Shivani Biswas & Sanajendu Nath among others shared their views & perspective over the NRC issue. The speakers alleged that religious & linguistic minorities are being harassed in the name of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) update process.
" Names of people, especially Bengalis are being excluded from the NRC list despite being included earlier. Notice from foreigners tribunal are being sent randomly. A horrific atmosphere is being created across the state ," they said.
