Rape attempt on minor Girl in Cachar village; protest over police failure to Arrest the accused.
Silchar: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) along with students of different schools gheraoed Joypur police station in Cachar district on Wednesday in protest against the failure of the police to arrest Rejjak Uddin Barbhuiya (45),
who allegedly tried to rape a minor girl of Uttar Doloicherra village.
According to the FIR report lodged by the girl family with Joypur police station on August 18, the girl, a class-IX student of RCBP Higher Secondary School had gone to her tutor’s home at Joypur on August 18 evening. On her way back to home, Rejjak found her on the road and dragged her to a jungle near Uttar Doloicherra village, around 40 km from here. Rejjak allegedly touched her inappropriately and later tried raping her. The girl got saved after few residents rushed to the spot after hearing her screams and the accused fled away.
A group of ABVP members, who submitted a memorandum to Joypur police on Tuesday and served an ultimatum of 12 hours to nab the accused, assembled in front of RCBB Higher Secondary School around 10 am on Wednesday morning and later gheraoed Joypur police station in protest against the failure of the police to apprehended the accused within the specified time. A large number of students from different schools joined the movement.The agitation was called off after Lakhipur sub-divisional police officer Anurag Sharma talked to the protesters. He told them that a manhunt was on and police would nab the accused soon. Rejjak was not arrested, as per last available reports.
