AAU professor suspended after Molestation Charge

JORHAT, Sept 9: The Assam
Agricultural University (AAU)
today suspended a senior professor of the university Dr Jyoti Gogoi following a candidate
seeking admission to a postgraduate course this year, levelling charges of sexually harassment against him on Friday.
It may be mentioned here
that the girl, also an agriculture graduate of AAU, on
Friday lodged a written complaint with the Dean (Faculty
of Agriculture) Dr Jayanta
Deka, alleging that on Friday
when she went to the cabin
of Dr Gogoi in the Department of Economics and Farm
Management in the Jorhat
campus of the university at
Borbheta here reportedly to
know about the seat availability for third counselling in
master's degree, Dr Gogoi
sexually harassed her.
AAU Vice-chancellor (Acting) Dr Ashok Bhattacharyya,
who is the Director of Research (Agriculture), told this evening
that Dr Gogoi has been suspended with immediate effect
from service by the AAU authorities on the basis of the
report submitted by the faculty-level committee of the
university headed by Dr
Deka, to look into complaints
of sexual harassment. Bhattacharyya said that Dr Gogoi has
been suspended with immediate effect till the university’s
Internal Sexual Harassment
Committee, takes up the complaint and gives its opinion.
